Well for me that’s it for Sumrrá, incredible Jazz Artists, i hope you enjoy their journey…
The whole project was based on the 3 primary colours considering the group has three artist’s and of course the album is called 3. The main problem for me on this project was how to keep the rich colours from the RGB files to be printed with the CYMK process and to make it more difficult I wanted all of the backgrounds to be black with lot’s of noise (I like noise!) like a live concert which is the subtitle of the album, I think the basic artwork took me about 2 weeks to set-up, I had a couple of problems with the printing company as always, but nothing serious. It also took me 2 weeks with very little sleep to post-pro the videos the main video of course took most of my time, the most incredible part was that everything came out of nowhere, I really pulled things out of my head as I went along. No storyboard nothing, just simple ideas and that’s it.

It’s all up to date, we’ve been working together since 2005. 2006 we produced our first 3 shortfilms, “STEPHANIE”, “SINCERAMENTE” and “THEBIKE”. 2007 we produced “YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS IN THAT MAKE-UP”. And last year 2008, “UNTITLED”. I say up to date because my idea was to be able to show our work as HD podcasts, and yes the podcast is up and working. At the moment we are only giving away 3 of them but soon there will be more stuff to see.

At last a bit of time to dedicate myself to my own work, well here goes for all the people that tried visiting Nonresidentz.com and could not see the quicktime videos it’s a shame but you can’t have everything. And this is for all you LINUX workers that’s been giving me an hard time. The nonresidentz website was uploaded on 03/05/2005 the whole proyect about a years work.
When you open the website and you have the quicktime pro plugin you will be able to save the file on to your computer (RIGHT CLICK on image), but you will still need to be connect to internet to listen to the tracks, each song has a personal posterframe (picture for the song), on the right hand side of the main image you can see the names of each song and with their download arrows, if you click on the name of the song the player changes the song, if you click on the download arrows the song will be downloaded and installed in iTunes with it’s track information and picture (This we called the one-click download).
In the song list just under the last song “A Teoria de Costner” there is a qPlayer button if you click here the PLAYER FILE is opened in quicktime and you will be able to use the title tracks that are listed on the right of the qPlayer just before the audio visuales.
In other words everything is linked through quicktime, i’ve learned a hell of a lot since this first proyect and to my suprise looks like the H264 compresion is going to be number one, you can see the work of this compresion if you click on the “02 Video” button at the bottom of the nonresidentz webpage this video was made in something like 2 days, me and Hevi messing around with animation and music 2 years ago. Last thing the creative commons logo is on the site just for the music, free culture.

Well there u have it my first artwork for a 10” record and what better it’s my own. Well here goes i must say this record took us about 3 months to produce, god knows how long it took for Hevi, to organise the whole thing. If i remember clearly, Hevi rang me one day saying: Yo man que pasa, i want to record a 10” record but i want an Oriental Girl to sing in one of the tracks, do u want to help me out? My reply was, ok no problem. The 10” inch record is the easy part, but considering where we live we don’t have much chance on the Oriental part. One week later Hevi does one of his unusual concerts and in the middle of a FreeStyle, some girl (CUI YINGHUA) climbs up on the stage and starts to improvise with him. Yes u guested right the record had just began. We spent the last 2 weeks of August together, setting up the studio, Hevi had already setup the pieces of the puzzle in the computer, we just needed to record his voices again. The mixture table was totally in pieces but honestly in pieces. Good job i always have a screwdriver with me and Xurxo comes around to check things out (Big shout out Xurxo master do son). Once we had it all prepared, like 3 days of none stop work, there were cables everywhere, there was one time just before we started to mix all the music with the voices and effects that you couldn’t get to the back on the machines because there were so many cables. I think this is where i realised how i was going to focus the artwork for this record. Chegan Tarde EP is also available in 10” vinyl. 8€ shipping.
